รายละเอียด / Details:
Each individual has limitation of anxiety toleration. A person with considerable ego strenght can cope with more stressful situation than someone with little ego reserve. When the anxiety is so intense individual crisis is manifested in many ways, e.g. panic reaction, confusion state, suicide, homicide and assaultive behavior, ect. Many psychiaric emergencies are caused by anger as well as stressful situations. All people, including psychiatric patients lose control of their behavior more easily when they are fatigued or after ingestion of alcohol. Handling psychiatric emergencies is necessary to determine what the patient is attempting to accomplish by his behavior. The cardinal principle is to find out what is going on, preferably from the patient. If the patient is too uncooperative, manual restraints, parenteral sedation or isolation become necessary.
