The objective of this quasi-experimental research is to study the effect of delivery preparedness on knowledge relating to delivery, anxiety coping behaviour relating to labour pain during first stage of labour of primigravidas at Maternal and child Health Hosptial, Nakhon Sawan Province. The sample was 60 primigravidas who presented with aged 20-34 years old, marrie, 36 wks of gestation without complication of pregnancy and normal position of fetus in utero and no tragic life events within previous 3 months, attended the antenatal care clinic and delivered at Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Nakorn Sawan province. Samples were divided into study and control group by pair-matching of occupation and level of education. The study group received the delivery preparedness model designed by researcher and control group obtained routine delivery preparedness of the hosptial. The experimental activities and data collections were done during September to December 1989. The result revealed that after experiment the primigravida who received delivery preparedness model by researcher (study group) has significantly higher score of knowledge relating to delivery. Lower score of anxiety and better anxity coping behaviour relating to labour pain during first stage of labour than that of control group (p-value‹0.001). So it can be concluded that the delivery preparedness model by the researcher can improve knowledge relating to delivery, decreases anxiety and promote appropriate anxiety coping behaviour relating to labour pain during first stage of labour.
