This research aimed to stuyd the level of anxiety, concerns, learning needs, and expectations of pergnant women and spouses. The sample consisted of 330 couples who attended the child birth class programme provided by nurses in private hospitals. Data were collected by using a questionnaire, and analyzed by using frequency percentage, and means. The results revealed that 76.34% of the pregnant women and 82.86% of their spouses graduated at a bachelor degree. The majority 81.30% had a combined salary about 60,000 bahts per month. There were 82.43% of the women who were first pregnant and 92.72% had a gestational age at 4-6 months. Some of them 28.05% never knew about childbirth preparation , while 71.95% knew about it from magazines and newspapers. In this study, 78.12% of the pregnant women experienced some physical discomfort and 89.92% had anxiety. For the spouses, 73.33% had experienced anxiety, especially about the discomfort and health status of their wives, the upcoming delivery, and the mismatching of the baby and the mother in the labour room. Both pregnant women and spouses expected that after joining the childbirth preparation programme, they would be able to manage well during pregnancy 90.25% well prepared for delivery 42.50% had a reduction in anxiety and fears 21.25% and manage well in postnatal and baby care 18.75% The findings suggested that nurses should encourage pregnant women and spouses to attend childbirth preparation class at antenatal clinic so that they could have knowledge and understanding of antenatal and postnatal care. In addition, there should be a programme congruent with learning needs for pregnant women and spouses in order to prepare them well and appropriately to parent's role.
