This paper presents a theoretical discussion of methadone in the treatment of heroin addiction since the conventional method mostly fails, although some may say that substituting a lesser evil for a major one is no treatment. A program of treatment using methadone as carried out at Pra Mongkut Klao Army General Hospital is presented. It is now too early to give figures of success or failure. Another paper at the conclusion of the project will, it is hoped, be published.
