Questionaires containing eleven statements with answers indicated were mailed to each sunject, enclosing a stamped envelope for return of the completed form. The contents of questionaire can divided into there main headings : 1. Attitudes towards psychiatric patients 2. Attitudes towards treatment of mental hospital 3. Attitudes towards a belief of the causation of mental illness. The subjects were the North-eastern only from all occupations at the minimum age of 9. Out of the 1250 subjects 992 returned the completed from, including 363 females, and 629 males. The result indicates that most of he North-eastern strongly agree that mentally ill persons deserve sympathy. They are willing to accept and understand symptoms of discharged patients. However 35% of the pre-adolescents are afraid of the men tally ill, and 21.88% of the farmers are the runner up. As the attitude towards psychiatric treatment 26% of the farmers prefer to take mental patients to a temple for bathing with blessed water at the first time. Nevertheless most of the general public intend to take them to mental hospital and have confidence in psychiatric treatment. On the other hand educated people contemplate the discharged patients to have received inadequate treatment which lead to re-admission. Conclusively the North-eastern have been both agreeing and disagreeing at the level of 50% that mental illness is caused by supernatural. However, the highly educated are low in figure. 79.84% of the North-eastern believe that mental illness is influenced by environment especially among adolescents and educated people. Further research will be performed later.
