Encephalitis was spreading in the months of June up to september, 1969 in Northern region og Thailand such as Chiengmai, Lumpoon, and Lumpang. The cases were children and adults among which one thire died, and most ot he voctoms were children. Some of the patients had psychiatric symptoms and brought to Suanprug Hospital in the early stage of their illness. The symptoms were physical illness with fever; mental and neurological disturbances such as spastic paralysis of lower extremities, low ,otor activities, and speech disorderd which in most cases wes stammering. The symptoms and signs were classified into two stages. In the first stage following low grade fever, restless. Ness, irritability echolalia inability to control emotion, aggressiviness, paranoid idea, and visual hallucination were present. The second stage started 2-3 weeks later when the patients became stuporous and revealed signs of mental deterioration loss of concentration, poor motor activities strong aggressiveness, impulsivity and tempertantrum. The responeses to Rorschach Test were global level of perception and small area of the card, or d-detail, reduction of responses, slow thinking, and stupor. The responses to Thematic Apperception Test were picture dominated, and the responses to Bender gestalt were rotation and mirror picture image.
