The article deals with classification of the neuroleptic druge under 3 main principles; namely, chemical structure, pharmacology and potency, and clinical activity. The drugs are classified by their clinical activities in order to offer convenience for clinical uses. Further classification into subgroups of the drugs are sedative neuroleptics such as chlorpromazine; and potent neuroleptics such as fluphenazine, haloperidol. The sedative ones are effective to reduce anxiety and agitation the action of which begin within 1-2 hours. The potent neuroleptics are effective as being antipsychotic agents to minimize or abolish such symptons as hallucinations and delusions. On the therapeutic standpoint of view, the combination of thes two groups enhances the efficiency of both and simultaneously reduces their side effects.
