The purpose of this study were to find the sign and symptoms of erythema multiforme in psychiatric patients and also to study the guidelines for nursing care of psychiatric patients with erythema multiforme and Stevens Johnson Syndrome The patients studied were four psychiatric inpatients both male and female with diagnosisof Stevens Johnson Syndrome, who were treated with carbamazepine during the year 1996-1997. The study method was the nursing process based on nursing assessment in accordance to the knowledge of Gordon health frame work. The resilts of this study were: 1. The sign and symptoms of erythema multiforme are related to the side effects of carbamazpine, noted by high fever with skin rashes that contain lesions in the center. Lesions are also found in order membranous tissues and other organs that are called Stevens Johnson Syndrome, Severity of symptoms varies in each patient. Those with symptoms, no swelling of skin rashes and only sporadic inflammation of membrance in the body, can be treated in the psychiatric hospitals. Those with severs symptoms generalized inflamed blebs, detached skin and hyperpigmentation from dermal necrosis, with severe inflammation of Various organ membranes, must be refered to general hospital for treatment. 2. Guideline for nursing care in psychiatric patients with erythema multiforme and Stevens Johnson Syndrome is to apply nursing implementation according to the pronlems. These are the nursing care for the inflamed membranous tissues, the inflamed sikm rashes, buccal membranes, lips and eyes, high fever, body pain, inflamed respiratory tract membrane and genital tract membrane. In giving these nursing implementation, attention must be paid to the prevention of infections, electrolytes imbalance and dehydration, nursing care for psychological problems and the nursing prevention of relapse of allergic reactions to drugs.
