Manic-depressive illness is a common psychiatrisc illness which is characterized by a definite clinical manifestations which are readily recognized and diagnosed. Depressed type of the illness is most common while manic and circular types are uncommon. The diagnosis of depressed type could be made with no difficulties if the patient has depressed mood and at least half of the following symptoms anorexia or weight loss, insomnia, irritability, fatigue, retardation, loss of interests or sexual desire, feeling of guilt or unworthiness, and death wishes or suicidal ideas. Mania is characterized by euphoria or irritability, hyperactivity, push of speech, flight of ideas, insomnia, grandeur ideas and distractibility. A case of manic-depressive illness with typical manifestations is reported. The patient had episodic attacks of 3 depressions, 3 hypomanias and 1 circular type during the period of 14 years. The average duration for one attack was 7 months.
