A case of manic-depressive illness in a girl aged 15 is reported. Her first attack of mild depression started when ahe was 13 years old. The occurrence of the three classical types of the illness-manic, depressed and mixed types, in this patients is significant evidence for the correctness of the diagnosis. Among the patient's four attacks, three were recovered spontaneously, and one was recovered satisfactorily by psychotropic drugs. It is evident this case that the conversion symptoms may be seen in manic-depressive illness. There is strong evidence of this illness in the patient's family which not only confirms the diagnosis but also stresses the significance of hereditary to be the causative factor of this illness. The diagnosis of manic-depressive illness in children would be less difficult if it's possibility is kept in mind. It's clinical manifestations along with the family history of the same illness will confirm the diagnosis.
