Professor Dr. Phon Sangsingkeo was a native of Uhon Ratchathani, he pass away at the age of 74. He was under secretary of state for ministry of Public Health. The First Thai doctor to receive a Magsaysay Award for honest government service, the first Asia President of the World Federation for Mental of Hawaii 1969. Dr. Sangsingkeo was also know as a founder of modern psychiatry in Thailand. This paper aims at emphasizing on retrospective study of Dr. Sangsingkeo' activities during his retiriment, based on his mental health articles and his colleaques and his students. The result of study is mainly on three concepts which covered all his work: 1. Concept or Mental Health 2. Concept or Psychiatry and Psychotherapy 3. Concept or Promotion of Mental Health in Thailand 1. Concept or Mental Health in thailand. Dr. Sangsinkeo was interested in child rearing practices in Thailand. He emphasized on both using Buddhism which is applicable for parents how to look after child and family tie. For Mental Health in school, he said that mental heakth in school is mental health of teachers and pupils. During his retirement, he devoted in teaching mental health subject both universities and nursing colleges students. On nutrition field he wrote articles on this and pointed out how importance of nurtrition in connection with intellectau; function which is the primary prevention of mental health field. 2. Concept of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy. He performed epidememeology research on "Survey study of mentally in Mae Sarieng" with researchers from South East Asia Treaty Organization Medical Research Laboratory. This survey study pointed to the ethnic group of Lua people, the hill tribes. The result of the study was:-There were 8 cases out of 908 population or 8.8 per 1,000 suffered from severe psychiatric illness. The 8 cases were 6 schizophrenia 1 affective disorder 1 senile dementia and also found 2 cases mental retardation. He also performed on "Attitude of commity towards chronic patients" with researchers from Srithunya Hospital Nonthaburi, However only the half way of project was finish, and then the budget was not available. Drug addiction field was also studied. A survey of Thai student addiction was done. This was the first survey of drug addiction in Thailand. Psychotherapy in his articles, he persuaded Thai psychiatrist to use Buddhistic concept as reeducative psychotherapy for Thai Psychiatric patients. Through out his life, he proposed eclectic concept for practising psychotherapy. 3. Concept of Promotion of mental health in Thailand. He wrote a number of articles dealing with various kinds of mental health fiele. He participated in anational meeting as well as locally mental health meeting, and brough knowledge back to Thai people, until noe the word "Mental Health" is popular among Thai people. He contributed proposal to government for extra monney for helping psychiatrist. He was a Sub-chair of Thai medical council for training and examination in psychiatry until he pased away. During his retirementment Dr. Sangsingkeo was very much interested in arts culture which revealed in his articles.
