The authors (Train the Brain Forum Committee) devolop "Thai Geriatric Depression Scale (TGDS)" in Thai version for the standard depression screening test. The total score of TGDS is ranging from 0-30 points. TGDS is a self answering sheet for Thai elderly to assess the self-feeling in the last week events. After developing TGDS, this test had been applied to 275 normal healthy Thai elderly, aged between 60-70 years throughout the country. Among 275 elderly, 154 were females and 121 were males. The average time to complete TGSC is 10.09 minutes. The accuracy of TGSC was reported as 0.94 in female, 0.91 in male and the total accuracy was 0.93. Criteria for depression in Thai elderly judged by TGDS score are as followa ) normal (0-12 points); b) mild depression (13-18 points) moderate depression (19-24 points); and d) severe depression (25-30 points). Thai Geriatric Depression Scale is now applied in 14 institutes throughout Thailand. We are expecting that TGDS will be popular as it is a quick, easy, and accurate self-assessment acreening test with highly and applicabel to Thai culture.
