The authors (Train The Brain Forum Committee) develop "Thai Mental State Examination (TMSE)" as the firat neuropsychiatric test for the standard mental status examination for Thai subjects. The total score of TMSE is 30 points and it contains six basic subtests concerning orientation 6 points registration 3 points attention 5 points calculation 3 points language 10 points and recall 3 points After developing TMSE this test had been applied to 180 normal healthy Thai ederly aged between 60-70 years throughout the country. The mean total score of TMSE for normal Thai ederly is 27.38 (standard deviaation 2.02) points. The cut-off point for the diagnosis of normal healthy Thai elderly for TMSE is over 23 points calculated by the mean total score minus 2 by standard deviation of mean. There were 16.37 percent of Thai elderly who scored the full score of 30 marks in the TMSE test. The main subtest that most Thai elderly lost their score were recall (67.43%) calculation (41.14%) language (25.14%) and orientation (24.00%) The score lost for attention and registration were minimal recorded as 4.57% and 2.86% respectively. Thai mental state examinination is now applied throughout Thailand as it is a quick (less than 10 minutes) sensitive, reliable, and applicable neuropsychiatric test Thai subject who has differed in socioeconomic status as well as differed in the level of education and traditional status which disimilar to the Westener.
