The study of factors associated with mental retardation and needs of Health Personnels in care providing in the upper northern part of Thailand was conducted by surveying from the district health personnels'idea and belief. The result indicated that the factors associated with mental retardation were hereditaty, infection during pregnancy, malnutrition during pregnancy. A total of 664 mental retardation were found. Most of them were 0-6 years old. The ration of female to male was 1:1.05. The expectation of the district health personnels was the knowledge of prevention, rehabilitation. The result of this study will be useful for mental retardation service and plan.
