CPP (computerized psychiatric package) version 1.0, a form of computer assisted instruction. Was developed to assist in psychiatric education, review of basic psychiatric knowledge and to provide psychiatric information on ICD-10 Classification of Mental and Behavioral Disorders including signs and symptoms in psychiatry. The target users intended for CPP include medical students, general practitioners, psychiatrists and other psychiatrists personnel. It was also meant to further provide a linkage between psychiatry and computer sciences. Foxpro for DOS was used to develop the CPP as follows. Two hundred terms were chosen from psychiatric textbooks, and classified into 10 levels of difficulty. Indexed psychiatric words and fifth digit code of ICD-10 classification were incorporated. All elements of package were then designed to 3 modules and using procedural language to make the user friendly interfaces. The CPP has a capability to search for indexed psychiatric words and to refer these terms to related disorder categories as appeared in the ICD-10 classification. It also provides quiz session of 10 levels of difficulty in psychiatric symptomatology. CPP developed in this study is still in its initial stage. Yet it providesfeatures of text display rapid search and ease of use without any requirement of computer knowledge. Further development of CPP to make use of more complex algorithms and graphic presentation with sound effects may be instrumental to improvement of psychiatric education.
