รายละเอียด / Details:

A case of filicide is reported. The mother had tried to murder her two children and attempted to take her own life by ingesting insecticide. Luckily, the four years old daughter and the patient survived, after intensive medical treatment. But her one and a half years old son died. The lacking of love and rejection by parents in her childhood; the chronic severe physical illness; the dysharmony in marriage and subsequently deserted by husband; are among the main contributing factors which caused depression in her for a considerable period of time. Fianally resulted in despair, hopelessness, worthlessness, life is miserable and suffering, together with frequent suicidal wishes. When contemplating suicide, her two children, who were liked part of her life and body, should not be left to suffer. The patient committed filicide because of love, mercy and great concern for her children. Her case was not put to court because the prosecutor was convinced by the psychiatrist's opionion and the patient was not guilty on the ground of psychosis and the patient could not hold responsible for her act. She was given psychiatric treatment with great improvement. Even tually she is now leading a normal life. The medico-legal aspect of this case is also analysed and discussed.
