A follow up study was undertaken in all new cases of conversion neurosis during the year 1975, in the Division of psychiatry, Department of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, in Bangkok. Results showed thaat there were 64 cases 8.7% of conversion neurosis out of the total 734 new psychiatric patients. The majority were young adult women with mean age of 23 years and the female : male ration of 5.4:1. Forty two point two percent of the subjects were educated at the level of Mathayom Suksa and upward. The common precipitating causes were fa,ily reactions. Sixty five point six percents were reared by their parents,as negligence, inconsistency and overindulgence. The method of management was supportive psychotherapy with appropriate symptomatic psychotropic drugs. The treatment resulted in marked improvement in 45.3 percents of cases. Fifty six point three percents were inconsistent with their hospital visits and 59.4 percents were dropped out. The author's opinion on the psychiatric treatment of conversion neurosis is to search for dynamic diagnosis including environmental factors and personality problems, so that the appropriate management for each patient can be planned collaborating with the family and milieu therapies.
