The side effects of antipsychotic drugs used in residential care between 1968 to 1989 at Uwaprasart Waithayopathum Hospital (child and adolescent psychiatric hospital) were studied. There were 2,585 psychiatric children referred for residential care and 1,738 children received antipsychotic drugs. The severs side effects of antipsychotic drugs were found in central nervous system (14 cases) and autonomic nervous system (7 cases). The other effects were found in eyes (22 cases), skin (2 cases) and urogenital organ (3 cases). Symptoms and signs of neuroleptic malignant syndrome and sleep apnea were not found.
