The objective of this descriptive analysis was to study quality of developed alcohol withdrawal scale based on Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition (DSM-IV) criteria. Subjects were 38 alcohol withdrawal inpatient men aged between 18 to 6 years diagnosed based on DSM-IV criteria, whose were admitted in Suanprung psychiatric hospital Chiangmai during 1st January to 30th June 2001 and had the revised Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol scale (CIWA-Ar scale) score>10. The research instruments were personal information, CIWA-Ar scale and the developed alcohol withdrawal scale. The data were collected and statistical analyzed by the program SPSS for Windows (Statistic Package for the Social Science). The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, Z score, means, and standard deviation. The quality of developed alcohol withdrawal scale by 3 experts for content validity with CIWA-Ar scale by Pearson's correlation coefficient and reliability by Cronbach. The results from trial 30 subjects found that the Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient equal to .76 and in study with 38 participants found significant with CIWA-Ar scale by Pearson's correlation coefficient at level. 01. This results can conclude that the developed alcohol withdrawal scale had the same efficiency, validity and reliability as the CIWA-Ar scale. It could be useful for clinical care of patients undergoing alcohol withdrawal.
