The purpose of this study was to explore the psychosocial factors of the patients with Amphetamine Related Psychosis. The study was cross sectional descriptive study. Subjects included of 290 patients who were admitted at Somdet Chaopraya Hospital. The instruments consisted of Brief psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) and the psychosocial interview form. Percentage, mean, standard deviation, mode, maximum and minimum were determined. Chi-square test, Fisher's Exact test and t-test were used for statistical analysis. Data were analyzed with SPSS program. There were 290 subjects in this study, 202 were male an d88 were female. Subjects started to use amphetamine at the average age of 20.02+-6.15 years; range=10-45 years. In male subjects the age at the start of amphetamine use was 20.61+7.21 years; In female subjects it was 18-68+-4.28 years. The difference had statistical significance (p‹0.05). Male subjects used amphetamine longer than female subjects (5.46+-3.42 years and 4.38+2.31 years respectively, p<0.05) with BPRS assessment symptoms with highest severity were auditory hallucination (95.2%) and conceptual disorganization (88.6%) After treatment 76.17% of the subjects improved in the first week. The most frequent method of amphetamine use was inhalation 96.2% The most frequent reason for substance use was experimental 57.2% Family relationship was characterized by moderate degree of conflicts in 74.8% child rearing pattern was overindulgence in 44.5%. Twenty percent of the subjects had relative who were psychotic. Eighty three percent had friends who abused amphetamine. There were no significant difference between the psychosocial factors of male and female subjects.
