An experimental study designed was aimed to investigate efficacy of acupuncture on attention and concentration at Srithanya Acupuncture clinic and Neurologic clinic. Health volunteers must free from anxioytic, sleeping pills, cold relieve pills or beta- blockers and had to receive continuous acupuncture treatment 2-5 times a week for a total course of 10 times. Acupoints were sishencong (Ex-Hn1). Needles were sustained for 30 minutes. Subjects had an audio evoked potential P300 (EP300) recording at baseline. Within 1 day after finishing a therapy and 1 week follow up period. An average time of P300 record was 18 minute. Latency time and amplitude of EP 300 at central point were analyzed. Subjects and control group were tested on reaction time by Tachist program at baseline, after 3rd, 6th, 10th times of acupuncture within 24 hours of treatment and 1 week follow up. Subjects were self-rated on sleep, concentration and emotion by 0-5 Linker scale parallel to a reaction time study. Friedman test was calculated on reaction time and latency time of EP 300 There were 14 subjects participated in this study. The mean age was 40.40+-7.83 years. The latency time trend was decreased but not significantly. Reaction time improved significantly. However, compared with control group (10 persons), there were no statistically significant differences. Subjective evaluation on sleep, emotion and concentration did not differ but all subjects felt sleepy at early night and slept tightly than usually. In conclusion, acupuncture had brain physiologic changes proved by EP 300. This study will benefit to further study on memory and concentration in neuro-psychiatric cases.
