The purpose of this descriptive study was to examine knowledge and preventive behaviors towards drug abuse in thammasat university elementary school students. A stratified random sample of 180, one to sixth grade students, was obtained. Questionnaires on Knowledge and preventive behaviors towards drug abuse were distributed to students during November to January 2002. The findings showed that students were knowledgeable about drug abuse ranging from high to the highest level, and students had preventive behavior ranging from average to high level. The 1-3 grade students and 4-6 grade students knowledge levels and preventive behavior levels towards drug abuse were not statistically difference (p>.05). Students' knowledge towards drug abuse were significant positively correlated with correlated with students' preventive behavior towards drug abuse. (p‹.01) (r=.31) It is suffused that students need to be educated more about knowledge and preventive behaviors. Health professionals should develop prevention program that guide students to use their knowledge for their better behaviors so that when they are faced with the temptation, they are able to say "No" effectively.
