Mental health problems and psychiatric diseases are now rising in all areas. From the annual report of Yala hospital, the psychiatric outpatients had increased from 3,180 cases in 1997 up to 8,235 cases in 2001. The Yala hospital have to provided cover 1.7 million population in 3 provinces along the south border. Some of patients has to come from another provinces, which require them to travel more than 200 kilometers in order to receive treatment from the only one psychiatrist in Yala Hospital. Among this group, some patient do not need to be treated by psychiatrist, but non-psychiatrist can be able to provide services for them. In order improve potential of psychiatric services in general and community hospital in 3 provinces, namely, Yala, Pattani and Narathiwas. The training programs were provided to public health personal such as doctors, nurses, and pharmacist. They survey of psychotropic drugs had been implemented in order to formulate drug list to use in all hospitals. They also develop special format referral form to be sent back to the nearby hospital. The supervision is arranged in every 3 months. The project has shown up the good result. The patient can get follow up treatment in the nearby hospital. Most of all we have gained the structural network of psychiatric services.
