Rajanukul Institute is responsible for serving the tertiary with mentally retarded children. Moreover, the following strength to live in the community. To make sure that can help themselves to care for their children. The service with the model of Family Ward is the new concept of the service in aims to solve the problems of their families. The implementation is to provide information to children both in theory and practice by a multidisciplinary team. They can covey the proper way to handle their children continuously with consistency and independence. Purpose To find out the model and develop the technology serving for mentally retarded persons and their families and to establish the demonstration unit for the mentally retarded persons and their families in order to empower and encourage them. Process preparation phase : Staff, services model and location were ready. There was a multidisciplinary team meeting in order to arrange the programs for 2-week activities and also the criteria of admission. Operation phase : Provides the services for the children and their parents during 2 weeks as follows ; assessing the ability of their children by parents and staff together before training, planning, implementing, evaluating as well as individual behavior modification after that we planned for home activities and further programs to follow up in 1,3,6 and 12 months. Result Those parents who participated were highly satisfied with this service model and gained some techniques that they could convey into their daily life. The evaluation after they were discharged from the family ward was that over 80% of those children developed by themselves. Many visitors showed interest in this model to apply and establish this type of devices both domestic and abroad.
