Objective To evaluate the results of the procedures of promoting community participation in caring for psychiatric patients in the community project. The study was carried out in 2002 by the Department of Mental Health, ministry of Public health. Thirty-eight province were involved in the study and in each province one community that had psychiatric were used. Results Most of the punlic health workers who trained in the Workshop for Caring for Psychiatric Patients in the community believed thath the seminar was very useful in practice and they believed they gained knowledge from the seminar. The evaluation of the lectires'seminar of activity techniques indicate that a significant (p‹0.01) number of paersonal who trained, learned a great deal. The majority into their work the seminar was either very useful, and that they could apply their learning into their work practices. From the evaluation of the participation of relatives and the community in caring for patients in the community, it wasfound thath these people practiced follow-up visits, undertook condition monitoring, checked on continual taking of medication and body cleaning, and encouraged patients which made the patients feel better and able to help themselves. The patients were able to care for themselves and were able to adjust better socially in the community.
