รายละเอียด / Details:

Methamphetamine abuse is an important problem in Thailand. Presently, methamphetamine is one of the main constituents of "YABA" or speed pills sold in Thailand. The detection of methamphetamine in urine is a method for diagnosis of methamphetamine abuse. It si believed by drug abusers that adding some substances into the urine specimens will falsify the analysis. In this report, we investigate the effects of changing urine pH or adding adulterants on the urine methamphetamine analysis urine from the methamphetamine or "YABA" abusers was used for a positive control. The results that adjusting urine pH between 3-11 has no effect on methamphetamine analysis by color test, Enzyme Multiplied Immunoassay Techniaue (EMIT) and Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC) Sixteen of 22 compound adulterated in urine have no effect on the detection of methamphetamine by color test EMIT and TLC. Some of these compounds affect urine appearance. Adding brake fluids food decolorization detergent Chlorox bleaching powder or alum into urine specimens cause false negative for methamphetamine analysis by color test or EMIT. However, which confirming by TLC, the results yield positive for methamphetamine except the urine specimen added with bleaching powder. Since adultered urine with some substances can falsify the methamphetamine analysis, collecting urine specimens should ne under close supervision to avoid contamination and false negative results.
