Suicide behavior has been critically increased each year. For the 4th Public Health Region, the highest attempted suicide rate was at Samutsongkarm in the year 1998, 1999. This study was a case control study. The samples were divided into two groups, the case group, 46 persons, who aattempted suicide and medical services at all public hospital in Samutsongkram. The other was the control group, 92 persons, who came into the same hospitals during nearly same period with other complains, other than suicide. The interview questionnaire was designed by the researcher was applied with the depressive screening test developed by the Department of Mental Health. The study started from March 2001 until August 2002. Analysed by Percent, Chi squres, Odds ration and we found that most of the attempt's demographic data were 15-24 years old, female/male ratio: 2.3/1, primary elementary graduated, married, employee, adequate income. The related personal factors were personality trait, alcoholic, previous aattempted, psychiatric history and severe depression. The related social factors were coping conflicts without communication, writing abouts suffering. Understanding the influencing factors will be beneficial to the suicide promotion and prevention strategies in Samutsongkram and also be applied to other same background provinces in the 4th Public Health Region.
