The purposes of this research were to study coping abillity of schizophrenic patients before and after using empowerment program and compare coping abillity of psychiatric patients in the experimental group and control group. Research sample consisted of 30 schizophrenic patients in Srithunya hospital. Samples were assigned to experimental and control control groups with 15 patients each. Two instruments were developed by research were empowerment program and coping abillity test. These instruments were tested for validity and reliability. Coping ability test was developed from Jalowiec coping scale (1987) and reliability was 0.80 Statistical techniques used in data analysis were mean, standard deviation and t-test. Major results of the study were the following : 1. Coping ability of psychiatric patients in experimental group after using empowerment program was significantly higher than control group, at the .05 level.
