The objective of this pilot study is to test and validate the Name Writing subtest of Hakstead-Reitan Neuropsychological Battery in Thai subjects by comparing between brain-damaged patients and normal adult Thai subjects. There were 132 subjects; 45 brain-damaged subjects and 87 normal adult subjects. The number of males were 74 and females were 58. The subjects were ranged from 17 to 72 years old; mean as 35.16 years, SD as 15.29 years. The education background of each subjects were ranged from Primary level (grade one) to graduate level (Master degree). Most of them were undergraduate level (56 subjects/42%). The result shows that the time of name-writing of preferred hand was significantly less than of non-preferred hand in all subjects (P>0.05). The time of preferred hand in brain-damaged subjects was significantly longer than in preferred hand of normal subjects (P‹0.05). It is concluded that name Writing in the HRR Neuropsychological Battery can distinguish between brain-damaged and normal subjects.
