รายละเอียด / Details:

Nervous symptoms such as distress and anxiety are revealed in anxiety neurosis; these symptoms also appear in hyperthyroidism. This was described by Parry classic descriptions of hyperthyroidism. This was described by Parry 1825 and Graves 1935 in their classic descriptions of hyperthyroidism, Accordingly, thyroid psychosis was first described by Based 1840, who first reported a psychotic reaction in exophthalmic goiters. Subsequently there have been a number of reports concerning mental changes accompanying hyperthyroid function (Ingham and Nielsen, 1931. Lidz and Whitehorn, 1949. Bursten, 1961. Greer and Parson, 1968. Lake and Fan, 1973.) Greer and 1968 wrote that "very few cases of thyrotoxic psychosis have been reported during the last twenty years. It seems that such conditions have become increasingly rare since the advent of modern antithyroid treatment" However, several questions occurred from the reading of this article. My colleagues and I have also studied several cases of thyroid psychosis. We also agree with Greer and Parson in that we found few cases throughout the years. Our work was done with the cooperation of the X-ray Department, Women's Hospital, in Bangkok (Suwanlert, 1974).
