รายละเอียด / Details:

This paper presents an approach to therapy that has been found to be useful for structuring and developing speech and language function in the autistic child. The program has been organized under four subheadings: 1. No vocal imitation 2. Vocal imitation 3. Verbal labeling 4. Verbal discrimination No vocal imitation is to teach the imitation of the gross body movement of the clinician and then the fine movements, such as movements of tongue, lips and jaw. A gradual transition from no vocal imitation of ,mouth movements to imitation of sounds is accomplished afterward. Vocal imitation begins with single sound imitation. Various consonants and vowels are attempted separately, then in combination. Verbal labeling is introduced after the achievement of vocal imitation. The child was taught that things have labels and the movements and sounds he produced could represent action and objects. Verbal discrimination includes the discrimination of consonants and vowels, the discrimination of words and the discrimination of may different types of verbal stimuli. This program of speech training is started with the no vocal imitation. The more complicated vocal imitation is gradually introduced until the child is able to accomplish verbal labeling and verbal discrimination.
