A survey of 243 cases of suicide reported by the medico-legal section of siriraj hospital over a period of seven years (1953-1959) reveals: 1. The number rates as one in four as compared with natural deaths 2. Males twice as frequent as females 3. Youngest 15 years and oldest 80 years. Higher incidence in males from 20 to 39 years and females from15 to 19 years 4. More frequent in thai than chinese: the ratio being 3: 1. 5. Death from piosons is commonest hanging comes next 6. The number of cases of suicide per unit population is greater in Bangkok (the capital) than in Dhonburi A comparison is also made with incidences in England and U.S.A. A short summary of theories and legal aspects concerning suicide, as well as comments on its prevention is given
