Latex Agglutination Inhibition Technique LAI is performed for the detection of morphine in urine in comparison with radio immunoassay technique RIA, Enzyme Multiplied Immunoassay technique EMIT, and Thin-Layer Chromatography technique TLG, both hydrolyzed and non-hydrolyses. It is found that LAI is as effective as RIA and EMIT and much more effective than TLG. LAI requires lower initial cost investment than all other techniques, needs no preliminary urine preparation, and takes not longer than 2 hours to get the result. It is suitable to be introduced as a primary and single technique in the laboratory newly established for monitoring purpose.
