Three hundred and two cases of the aged 139 men and 163 women among the outpatient population of Somdet Cgaopraya Hospital during the period of June 1985 to May 1986 were retrospectively analyzed. The fist author was the diagnostician throughout, using the DSM-III diagnostic criteria. It was found that the first four psychiatric disorders ere Affective Disorders 24.2% Organic Mental Disorders 22.8% Neurotic Disorders 14.6% and paranoid Disorders 9.3% in order to frequency. The diagnoses of major Depression and Dysthymic Disorder were highest among the Affective Disorder group and made up 20.9 percent of the total aged population studied. In the Neurotic Disorders 12.9 percent were Anxiety states while in Organic Mental Disorders 11.6 percent were diagnosed as Primary Degenerative Dementia and Multifactor Dementia. These findings were similar with others in the literature reviewed.
