รายละเอียด / Details:
The purpose of this study was to gain an understanding of the cultural meaning of midlife for Thai women currently residing in the Seattle area. Hermeneutic phenomenology based on the philosophical views of Heidegger was used as a framework and the phenomenological method described by Benner was employed to analyze the data. Nine Thai women who volunteered to participate in this study were interviewed about their midlife experiences. The findings showed five predominant themes: 1) changing, 2) adjusting, 3) finding fulfillment, 4) going through menopause, and 5) experiencing stress. The conclusion indicated that midlife is a complicated time for women living between two cultures. It encompasses physiological, psychological, and sociocultural changes. During this time, women learn to adapt self through their midlife experience. This research enlightens Thai women’s thoughts about their midlife in order to stimulate health care professionals to worry about the appropriate health care and cultural sensitivity, and accordingly to build up an environment that supports midlife women’s dignity and promotes their health
