รายละเอียด / Details:
This qualitative study examined how individuals managed their hypertension. Twenty-nine individuals with a diagnosis of hypertension for one to fifteen-years participated in this study. Grounded theory methodology was used, from which a model of self-care management emerged. Findings elucidated a hypertensive self-care management process of activities used by individuals to manage their hypertension. Perceptions of illness, experiences of symptoms, and evaluating outcomes of self-care management influence stages of self-care management. The four stages of hypertensive self-care management were comprised of: following medical regimens as prescribed when initially diagnosed with hypertension, modifying the prescribed medical regimens when having hope of curing hypertensive, having good self-discipline with self-care needs when perceiving hypertension as a potentially life-threatening illness, and meeting self-care needs with flexibility when perceiving hypertension as a permanent illness. The findings provide the necessity for nurses to understand and assess stage of self-care management of persons with hypertension in order to facilitate patients’ blood pressure control.
