รายละเอียด / Details:

The purposes of this study were to study quality of life and to examine the predictive relationships among the basic conditioning factors, self-care agency, social support, and quality of life of breast cancer patients after mastectomy. A conceptual framework was based on Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory (Orem, 2001). Purposive sampling was employed to recruit 130 breast cancer patients after mastectomy who came for follow up care at surgical out patient department of Chulalongkorn Hospital and national Cancer Institute. Study instruments were Basic Conditioning Factors (BCF), Self Care Agency (SCA), social Support (SS), and Quality of Life (QOL) questionnaires. There questionnaires were tested for content validity and reliability. The alpha coefficients of SCA, SS, and QOL were .93, .91, and .81, respectively. Statistical methods of frequency, mean, standard deviation, and stepwise multiple regression were used to analyze data. Major findings were as follows: 1. The overall quality of life of breast cancer patients after mastectomy was in the high level (X = 73.98). 2. Factors significantly predicted quality of life of breast cancer women after mastectomy were social support (SS), self care agency (SCA), basic conditioning factors including primary school education level (ED2), and family income of 2,000-4,999 bath per month (INCOM2), respectively. These predictors were accounted for 22 percents of variance (R2 =.218). The study equation was as follow: Z^ QOL =.258ZSS +.232ZSCA -.195ZED2 -.167ZINCOM2 These findings have implications for health care systems and nursing practices in planning interventions to promote quality of patient life. To develop quality of life of breast cancer patients after mastectomy especially patients with low income, and low education, nurses should support husband, relatives, friends and loved persons to care for patients and empower the patients ability to appropriately care for themselves.
