รายละเอียด / Details:

The purpose of this study was to determine the attitudes toward people with disabilities among teaching associates in the Department of nursing, Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital. The attitudes were determined using a Thai language questionnaire of their attitudes toward people with disabilities, which was composed of 30 items with a total score of 180; higher scores reflected more positive attitudes. The questionnaires were distributed to 120 teaching associates with a response rate of 79% (95/120). Ninety -two questionnaires were complete for the assessment. The results revealed that the attitude scores ranged from 42 to 150 with a mean of 92.8. There was no association between attitude and age, duration of teaching as well as duration of experience with people with disabilities. In addition, the response to two open-ended questions revealed that teaching associates agreed that people with didabilities could lead a normal life and should have the same responsibilities as people with non-disabilities, 45.6% and 78.3%, respectively. Thus, accurate information concerning people with disabilities should be adequately provided to teaching associates in order to serve as role models for nursing students in coping with people with disabilities.
