รายละเอียด / Details:

The objectives of this research were to: 1) evaluate women's stress in the last month of pregnancy including during the intrapartum period, 2) identify the predictability of selected patient demographic characteristics and number of social support persons on women's stress, and 3) examine the relationship between women's stress and the childbirth outcomes. Convenient sampling was used; the sample consisted of 525 postpartum women who gave birth in a selected regional hospital in the southern part of Thailand. Two questionnaires were used: 1) Demographic Characteristics and History of Pregnancy and 2) the Perceived stress scale. Data were also collected from mothers' and newborns' hospital recore chart. The majority of pregnant women (69%) reported moderate stress but 15% of the pregnant women reported high levels of stress. There predictor variables; number of social support persons, family income per month, and marital status significantly influenced the pregnant women's stress. The present study supports that stress during pregnancy and intrapartum affects the childbirth outcomes, such as babies' apgar score at 1 minute and pre-term labour. To improve the quality of childbirth care, all nurses should evaluate level of stress and potential factors that may influence women's stress during pregnancy and intrapartum.
