This was a descriptive study with quantative and qualitative methods of the study for the potential of substance abuse prevention among adolescents in a slum community. A purposive sample of 34 adolescents with ages ranging from 11-19 years was obtained. Focus group, participation observation, in-depth interview and questionnaire were used for data collection. Results indicate that adolescents' potential in slum community have features, including 1) practical and real situation is learning process to become wellness among adolescents 2) "show-Lang" means some adolescents have leadership 3) income, occupation, and opportunity is a basis of thinking to prevent substance abuse. The potential for substance abuse prevention among adolescents will be developed, including adjust the way of thinking, giving changes for emancipated potential, giving opportunity to develop carrier, cooperation with job finding place, building adolescent networking, and establishing foundations for potential development. Conditions for developing potential adolescents to be successful include cooperation with related organizations, awareness of the unity of the community, chance and opportunity for capacity building and self-reliance funding among the sulm community.
