ชื่อเรื่อง/Title: Mental health Laws-Are They Vital?: perspectives from Thailand

แหล่งที่มา/Source: Journal of the Psychiatric Association of Thailand. Vol. 47, No. 4, October-December 2002, Page 281-286.

รายละเอียด / Details:

Mental Halth Laws are used in many countries to provide appropriate services to persons with mental disorders. However, there is no such law in Thailand. Involuntary admissions and treatments are done by traditional means, with agreements of psychiatrists, patients relatives, and local authorities, Management of mentally ill offenders is conducted based on Criminal Procedures Law and Criminal Law, while management of properties of persons with mental disorders is carried out based on Civil and commercial Laws. The Medical Council and Hospital Accreditation system are crucial tools in monitoring for malpractice or inappropriate management of paychiatric patients. At present, there seems to be no urgency for mental health legislation in the opinion of many psychiatric professionals.
