Retrospective study was done in 100 preschool children (age 6 years old) who received evaluate and treatment at Department of Child Psychiatry, Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health from 1996-1999. About twenty six percent of new psychiatric patients under 6 years of age had communication problems. Seventy six percent of these children met the criteria of Autistic Disorder, Mental Retardation and Selective Mutism in 54, 21 and 1 percent, respectively. Phonological disorder was found at 5 percent which had low incidence of psychiatric problems.
