Marital separation or divorce are stressful for families. One hundred and sixty-eight cases of children with parents marital separation or divorce were studied at Queen Sirikit Institute of Child Health. It is 9.07 percent of 2,157 new cases who aattended psychiatric unit between 1993-1998. The mean age of the children at the time of divorce was 2+-0.8 years. About forty-two percent of these children was reared by mothers and 18.7 percent by mothers' cousins. About twenty-four percent of these children was reared by fathers and 13 percent by fathers' cousins. About five percent these children were adopted. The study found that there was 25.2 percent of child neglect or abuse, 23.6 percent of adjustment problem, 12.2 percent of emotional problem and 10.6 percent of behavioral problem. Twenty-nine percent of parent who lived with their children were remarried.
