รายละเอียด / Details:

The survey study on mental health and learning problems was done in a primary school in Haad-Yai where the majority of pupils were, to a certain degree, under-privileged socioeconomic mically, Problems encountered in the study were dropping out of school, lack of cooperation from parents, and the low reliability of school grades as measure of academic achievement. Despite the problems mentioned, the interesting findings were 58.8% of the children were free from either mental health or learning problems. The percentage of children afflicted with mental health problems was 24.8 The ratio of male to female afflicted with mental health problems was 5:4 Children without mental health problem but with learning disorders caused by perceptual defects comprised 11.11% of the total population, while those with subnormal intelligence accounted for 1.3% The percentage was the same as those with low motivation. Finally, 3.4% of the children were doing under their potential in learning but the casual factors could not be determined. It is hoped that this study will stimulate those who are working with school children to put more effort into helping children afflicted with mental health and learning problems in order to help these children to attain their true potential in academic achievement.
