Aphetamine usage may induce many psychiatric disorders such as psychosis, depression anxiety which are classified as mental and behavioral disorders due to amphetamine, therefore psychotropic medications for treatment of these disorders are used. From 1 st January to 31 st March 2000, there were 774 cases of amphetamine dependence out-patients. All were prescribed psychotropic drugs, average 2.48+0.76 itemsper prescription. The majority were antidepressants (63.39%). The common antidepresants prescribed were tricylic antidepressants and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Bityrophenes and phenothiazines were among the antipsychotics prescribed, meanwhile benzodiazepines were the most anxiolytics used. The psychotic symptoms occurred significantly in the group of age over 20 years old and daily amphetamine expense more than 100 baht. For amphetamine psychosis prevention, further studies on premorbid personality and early diagnosis are recommended.
