The study of influential factor on health-related quality of life in stroke patients using the short form 36 health survey SF-36 was done in 150 out patients at Prasat Nerological Institute from Aprill to August 2002. The objectives of this study were focused on general information of the patient, quality of life state of depression, and factors influencing quality of life. We found that the average patient's age was 60 years. 56.7 percent was male and 78 percent lived in central region. Eighty percent of them were married and 93.8 percent had children. We also found that 50 percent of patients graduated from primary school, 63.3 percent had the third party payment, 74 percent had no problem of payment. The major cause of stroke 93.3% came from artherosclerosis/thromboemebolus 44.7 percent had numbers at the left side 68 percent walk alone by themselves. The average aduration of the stroke from the onset was 3 years, 77.3 percent had regular medication, the number of drug used per day was 4.87 items and the average amount of tablet was 6.92 tablets/day. Occupation, smoking, alcoholic intake were different between before and after stroke which statistical significance p‹0.001. The quality of life was affected by marital status, kind of treatment, financial problem, expense, illness, body movement, kind of drug, cause, age, number of children, income, drugs per day, drug amount per day in which some domain can yiedstatistical significance p<0.05 by SF-36. Depression affected patients quality of life in every domains which were physical functioning, role physical, bodily pain general health, social functioning, vitality, role-emotional, mental health. The effect was statistically significance at p<0.001.
