Objective: To date, limited information’s is documented for formulating a model of intervention particularly in psychiatric emergency services and crisis services. The current study was an attempt to explore and devise a workable suicide crisis intervention framework to address the need in a local setting. The framework envolved from practical intervention procedures seems supported by evidences of the efficacy of the services provided Methods: It was hypothesized that suicide crisis is by large triggered by an event (usually a loss or perceived loss), and that an individual failed to cope, i.e., unsuccessful in addressing the demands from the environment. It is widely contended that individuals are affected and or responded at broadly 3 aspects; namely biological, psychological and social. Therefore, for operational purpose, a framework for crisis intervention that addresses the 3 aspects was devised and discussed. Results and conclusion: The framework suggests 3 phases of intervention: 1) Assessment and engagement; 2) Intensive crisis counseling; and 3) Internalization/follow-up. Empirical work has been done on the efficacy of he intervention provided i.e., comparing the risk level at initial intake stage and at termination stage. Assessment and various kinds of treatment were compared and correlation between interventions were found significant in reducing the level of suicide risk. The results obtained support the framework in that the services prescribed and provided to clients suits clients of different level of suicide risk. Also, various combinations of intervention in different phases were also found sufficient.
