An open trial of a new anxioytic drug Clobazam (Frisium) was carried out on outpatients with anxiety states. A total of 40 patients were initially admitted by the results on 27 patients were available for analysis because of drop-outs. It was found that clobazam was rapidly effective in abolishing the psychie and somatic mainfestations of the illness. Both aspects of the symptommatology were markedly improved by the end of the first week of treatment, the former continuing to improve in the sunsequent weeks the latter had in most cases maximally improved by the end of seven days. The improvement rate by global assessment was 81.5%. The drug was well tolerated, and clinically significant drowsiness was found in only 7.2% of patients given daily doses of between 20-40 mg a day. This probably due to individual susceptibility to the drug.
