Objective: To determine the efficacy of risperidone 2-4mg/day in treating patients with acute amphetamine-induced psychosis. Method: An open four-week clinical study was conducted with 20 patients ranging in age from 15 to 40 years with acute amphetamine-induced psychosis who sought treatment at Suanprung Hospital. the patients were assigned to the treztment using risperidone 2-4 mg/day for a period of four weeks . the efficacy of the treatment ws then asessed using the Positive and negative syndrome scale PANSS Results: It was found that risperidone was efficacious in treating patients with acute amphetamine-induced psychosis as evidenced by a statistically significant reduction in the PANSS mean scores, which decreased from 128.32+-19.77 before the treatment to 36.26+-8.97 after the treatment at the p‹.001 level. Conclusion: The results suggested that risperidone can be effectively used to treat acute amphetamine - induced psychosis.
