รายละเอียด / Details:

A menth health survey to measure the prevalence of psychoneurotic stress was conducted in Chonburi province, Thailand from 1 January to 30 April 1984, using a questionnaire adapted from the Health Opinion survey of Macmillan to determine a recent history of stress-related symptoms. A total of 4,114 respondents over the age of 15 were selected from 1,217 randomly selected households in 69 villages in 11 districts. There were 1,814 (44 percent) male respondents and 2,300 (56 percent) female respondents. The mean stress score for all respondents was 34.36 (SEM 0.10) with a range from 20 to 57. The higher the stress score, the greater the stress. A total of 14.4% of all respondents had a score of 42 or over, which was considered to indicate high stress. Statistically significantly higher stress scores were associated with respondents older compared to younger ages (p‹0.0001), respondents from rural areas compared to urban areas (p<0.0001), those with lower educational levels compared to those with more education (p<0.0001), repondents with occupations reported as guards, unemployed labourers compared to other occupations (p<0.0001), repondents with lower incomes (0-2000Baht per month) compared to higher income groups (p<0.0001), and respondents whose marital status was reported as separated, divorced, or widowed compared to married or single persons (p<0.0001). Bothong District had the highest stress score (36.83, SEM 0.52). No statistically significant differences at the 95% confidence level were found in stress scores by sex, by religion, nor by size of household.
